April is National Pest Control Month
April signifies the beginning of the heaviest pest activity, and will continue in full force over the next five months in Florida. WellTech Pest Solutions advises multi-family property managers to take steps to prepare for this busy season. Be ready for a deluge of resident calls, emergency services, and a variety of pests, including fleas, ants, roaches, millipedes, bed bugs, spiders, silverfish and more.

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) has designated April as National Pest Control Month. This annual observance serves as a vital reminder that pest control is not merely a reactive measure to be taken once an infestation has already taken hold. For a multi-family manager, it is a proactive necessity for maintaining a safe, sanitary, and structurally sound environment.
Why residents shouldn’t be doing DIY Pest Control
With home improvement stores stocked with various sprays, traps, and chemicals, residents may be tempted to handle pest issues themselves. However, Cindy Mannes, the Executive Director of the Professional Pest Management Alliance, offers a strong word of caution against this approach.
“While it may be tempting to try and handle a pest problem yourself, the truth is that a do-it-yourself approach is often ineffective and can even be dangerous,” Mannes explains.
Attempting to resolve an infestation without professional guidance often results in a “band-aid” solution that treats symptoms rather than the root cause. Instead, pests may travel to neighboring units because an inexperienced resident caused the pests to flee rather than be exterminated. Also, many DIY methods fail to address the nests, colonies, or entry points.. Furthermore, improper handling of pest control chemicals can pose risks to residents, children, and pets.
WellTech professionals bring the necessary training, specialized equipment, and deep multi-family residential environment expertise required to identify specific species and treat infestations effectively, safely, and permanently.
The Multi-Family Reality: The Florida Context
The stakes are significantly higher in the multi-family sector, particularly in states like Florida. In Florida, the concept of a “pest season” is a misnomer, because the season never truly ends. As previously mentioned, Florida is now entering its heightened state. Factoring in the warmer and humid conditions along with the density of housing, pests face fewer barriers to survival.
This is where companies like WellTech have become essential partners for property managers. Managing pest control in an apartment complex is fundamentally different from a single-family home. It requires specialized coordination between regional managers, property managers, assistant managers, and maintenance staff to ensure that infestations are caught early and treated across multiple units simultaneously.
In high-density environments, a single infestation can rapidly migrate through shared walls and utility lines. WellTech specializes in navigating this complexity, offering the consistent, professional oversight that is required to keep residents comfortable and properties protected. By partnering with experts who understand the unique dynamics of multi-family housing, property managers can transform their buildings from pest magnets into safe, compliant, and healthy living environments.
